A Passion for Healthcare Across

Dr. Nkumbe is an ophthalmologist, who is specialised in cataract surgery, the medical and surgical management of diseases of the retina and vitreous and glaucoma.

He attended Medical School at the Georg August University in Goettingen, Germany, and was an exchange student at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He subsequently completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a fellowship in surgical retina at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India as a Helmerich Scholar. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and holds an MSc in Community Eye Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Following a two-year stint with the World Health Organization’s TDR. in Geneva, he worked with CBM in Tanzania and Madagascar for seven years, helping with the implementation of VISION 2020 programs. During his professional career, Dr Nkumbe has worked in several African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Nigeria, Gabon and Cameroon. He has equally visited projects in Djibouti, Mali, Ghana and Guinea Bissau as a technical advisor or monitor.
